Royal collection For over five hundred years the kings and queens of England have collected art and objets d’art. Many of these items exist today as part of the Royal Collection and the Royal Archives. Some of these collections are held by the Sovereign in trust for the nation, whilst others are privately owned by the monarch. Established in 1987, the Royal Collection Trust is a department of the Royal Household. It is responsible for the care of the Royal Collection.
